awkward bird

sometimes things work in theory. this outfit felt great before i took the photos. then i just saw an awkwardness, and a stiffness. something wasn't right. these photos kind of predicted my thoughts to the evening later. i went to a gallery with a friend to watch a film. it was entirely in spanish with no subtitles. so i followed along, and still loved it surprisingly. but i felt so awkward. i was probably, literally, one of the only non-spanish speaking people there. but it got me out of the house, and kept the sadness off until later in the evening.

again, i'm more into the details and the colors than the outfit on a whole. i thrifted these mens cole haan leather oxfords. thank you guys with tiny feet. and i thrifted this vintage denim ll bean shirt. and the skirt. yes yes.

details:
shirt: thrifted
skirt: thrifted
socks: asos
shoes: thrifted
cardigan: vintage store in santa cruz

then of course, right before we left for the movie, i put on this cardigan, and then i loved the look.

this was the movie we went to see, and here is the trailer, with english subtitles. which i was not fortunate enough to have.

  2. Those shoes are so cute! I like this outfit. :) I also like the first photo where I can see the tripod/camera shadow on you. I just love photos where evidence of whose taken it (like old snapshots with the shadow of the photographer present) or how it was taken (if it was on a timer) is present.

  4. I just read your previous post and I can definitely sympathize with you about how hard it is to go out and be amongst people when your hurting. It seems like your taking it all in stride though, which is good! On a fashion related note, I love those maroon knee socks and I think I have almost the same camera strap as you! Except mine is purple and yellow :)

  5. I love love love this outfit!! First, I am so impressed it's all thrifted- shoes like that are always a hard find for me- so pretty, as is that skirt! Just perfect w/ the high socks too. you def dont seem stiff or awkward at all, but maybe you just werent used to it & felt awk & say it from the pics? the cardi is a great touch though. What movie did you see? I always want to find new movies in Spanish but never know where/how to find them. & thanks for your comment- I seriously couldn't rec. pressure cookers enough for beans, chickpeas (easy to make humus!), etc.

  6. What an awesome outfit; love the colors! For some reason, I feel it's very different from what you usually wear.

I'm sorry about the movie. I'm surprised by the huge number of people who speak Spanish here! David, who looks as white as he can be, and myself, obviously Asian, are approached by Spanish speakers all the time. It kind of annoys me that we are expected to speak the language, haha.

  7. Hahaha yeah that's pretty shitty! No subtitles, damn. I love the outfit by the way, especially with the cardigan indeed. I have the same thing with some outfits, you just need a little something extra to make it look more uhm, real? :-D That sounds strange. Anyhoo, you look adorable!
