finally

a lot of us have been working hard all semester, finishing projects and writing papers. i've been in the darkroom. i wanted to show you what i did. but as a warning, it could be triggersome.

each of these photographs were taken with a 4x5 / large format camera.
i developed and printed each image by hand.

all images click through to my flickr page.

for this assignment, we had to keep one negative pristine, and distress another in a way that correlated to the subject matter.
i typed a passage from hemingway's a farewell to arms over the negative.

pristine

distressed

the passage

my final, for my final we had to do an 'extended portrait'. when i thought of this, i thought of a further exploration of a place. i used to work a funeral home, and thought it would be a good place to go back and photograph. in doing so, i was not trying to be gruesome, or dark, but rather, honest. this is what it is. take from it what you will.
~insert possible trigger warning here~

i'd love to hear your thoughts.

  1. You are very talented and I bet you got an A. I did find the funeral Home a bit scary, in the sense that this might be me someday, but you captured my fear in that still photo. Congratulations and keep up the great work.

  2. Very confronting, I think this is excellent and you've explored the subject matter really tastefully. I'm not sure which photo I find more intriguing; the morgue or the Hello Kitty coffin.
I really hope you keep going with this and post more on the blog :)
