sometimes we remember our bedrooms

living in a small town means commuting a lot. living in a small town means i don't have the luxury of taking the freeway to the town i have to go to for school. instead i take back country roads that flood when it rains, and are full of potholes and roadkill (i saw a coyote the other day). but driving and listening to good music on a sunny day always makes up for it.

kissable and quiet

I've decided to return. I wasn't gone as long as I thought, and I'll try to post regularly (only because I don't like leaving it just sitting there). I've got a few posts planned for now. And I'm trying to be more excited about it. For now, here is a video I made last night because I couldn't sleep. It's about the little things in my room that keep me from going crazy.

If you're a reader, would you leave a comment telling me what you'd like to see? Maybe more of something? Maybe less of something? Something I've never done? Anything!

record of the day

this record of the day is in honor of bright eyes. and based upon the facts that 1. i'll be seeing them in april (YAY!) and 2. their new album comes out on the 15th.
i won't go into detail about this band, this album or anything because if i do, i won't stop.
just know that this band is very important to me. and listen.

record of the day

this used to be my sleep song. i'd put it on with a looping rain track and just let it go until i fell asleep. it helps to calm me down when i'm worried or stressed. it's been on repeat for a while nowl

record of the day

there's something about sam cooke i just can't shake. whenever i don't know what to listen to, i put on one of his albums and i can't help but sing and dance, even to the saddest of songs. i've infected a few other people i know with his music and i hear about them referencing him, and it just makes me so happy.

music monday

instead of doing a whole band, i'm just going to post a song. it makes it so much easier for me not to have to sort through a million things to compile a post that no one really reads, and it'll vary a lot more now.

this week: Beirut - Elephant Gun

videos/music:

this video is so cute because it's so old 1999!!

all of their real 'music videos' had embedding disabled by request. dang.

this band is one of my favorites of all time. i love all their individual projects as well (the elected, jenny lewis, without or without the watson twins, and jason boesel). i've been growing with this band for almost 7 years now. they put on such a show live, and haven't disappointed me yet. my favorite album of theirs is probably The Execution of All Things (which the first song is from). i can't even explain how much i love them! aaah.

music monday: pavement

Normally I wouldn't do a band I don't know very well, but after seeing Pavement at Coachella, and not knowing any of their music, I was impressed to say the least. I'm listening to them now, and for a day like today (with it's weather somewhere between gray and storm brewing) Pavement sounds like a good idea.

Here are some videos!

they're originally from stockton, california! which surprised me. and for a band that's been around since the 1990's making delicious lo-fi music, they were only a cult favorite. they disbanded in 1999 and reunited for their first performance in 10 years in march of 2010.
they've also confirmed they're playing in stockton in june, and it's their first ever hometown show. i plan on attending. (hopefully)
